Results of survey DBM parasitoids in Thailand

Together with FAO regional program for vegetables IPM and with the DOAE pest management Division, a survey was started to find out which parasitoids of Diamondback Moth are present in Thailand and to explore the possibilities to use imported Diadegma species as bio-control agents. The IPM DANIDA project then supported a workshop to discuss the findings of this survey and to plan new activities. The workshop included field visits to highland cabbage growing area in Tap-boek (Petchaboon province), one of the possible sites to release introduced Diadegma. The survey yielded 3 different parasitoids: Cotesia, Macromalon, and Diadromus, but no Diadegma was found.

Together with DOA and DOAE and with continued support by FAO and IPM DANIDA the plan is now to introduce Diadegma from Malaysia later this year (September 2005?). After initial rearing and screening by DOA the parasitoids will be reared for release in two highland cabbage areas.
